About Sandbox

Sandbox is a professional firm serving VC-backed startups in the finance and operations space. Sandbox provides business operations support from Seed to Series A and beyond, focusing on helping companies scale efficiently. As a fractional provider, Sandbox is always looking for tools to automate critical financial processes and reduce manual workloads.

One of Sandbox’s clients, GenLogs, a Series A B2B SaaS company, experienced rapid customer growth following a highly successful product launch. With an increasing volume of contracts and invoices, the company quickly outgrew its manual QuickBooks Online (QBO) and spreadsheet-based workflows. To maintain operational efficiency, they needed an automated solution that could scale with them.

Life Before Tabs

Before implementing Tabs, Sandbox faced several challenges:

  • Manual contract management: Each new contract required a separate spreadsheet entry and a corresponding invoice schedule, leading to inefficiencies and potential errors.
  • Disjointed workflows: While QBO works well for very small businesses, it lacks an integrated, end-to-end workflow to manage contracts, invoicing, and collections at scale.
  • Time-consuming collections: The company struggled to monitor outstanding invoices effectively, making it difficult to ensure timely payments and maintain cash flow.

With increasing transaction volume, it was clear that their current system wouldn’t be able to support long-term growth. They needed an automated solution that could streamline revenue operations without disrupting existing workflows.

Why Tabs?

Tabs stood out for several key reasons:

  • AI Contract Ingestion: Automating contract data entry saved significant time, reducing the need for manual inputs across multiple spreadsheets.
  • Seamless Integration: Unlike NetSuite, which required a costly $200K+ migration, Tabs integrated directly into their existing QBO and finance stack, minimizing disruption.
  • Scalability: Competing solutions like Maxio were priced based on transaction volume, making them less cost-effective. Tabs provided a more scalable approach.
  • Advanced Invoicing Automation: Compared to Stripe Billing, Tabs offered more flexibility and control, allowing finance teams to proactively manage revenue operations.

Recognizing the inefficiencies of fixing broken invoicing processes down the line, Sandbox made a proactive decision to implement Tabs early with GenLogs - setting up a scalable financial infrastructure from the start.

Life With Tabs

With Tabs, Sandbox’s client, GenLogs, transformed its financial operations, experiencing several key improvements:

  • Streamlined invoicing: Automated workflows eliminated manual data entry, reducing errors and allowing the finance team to focus on strategic initiatives.
  • Enhanced collections management: Tabs’ automated reminders and escalation workflows significantly improved outstanding collections rates, ensuring financial health.
  • Improved financial visibility and investor-ready reporting: Live dashboards provided leadership with critical non-GAAP metrics like recurring revenue and cash flow waterfalls, enabling data-driven decision-making through easily digestible reporting.
  • Scalability and reliability: Tabs enforced a structured financial process, ensuring that their workflows would scale efficiently as the company grew.

“Tabs created a strong financial structure that allows us to scale seamlessly. We have peace of mind knowing that as we grow, we won’t have to constantly re-develop or overhaul our processes.” — Nathan Kiss, Fractional CFO, Sandbox

The Tabs Partnership

A major highlight of working with Tabs was its exceptional customer success team. Through a shared Slack channel, any issues or questions were addressed rapidly, ensuring continuous optimization of financial workflows.

Additionally, Tabs' flexibility allowed finance professionals to customize and override data when needed, providing a balance between automation and control—something many competing platforms lacked.

Looking Ahead

Sandbox is excited to expand its use of Tabs, particularly exploring usage-based billing models for its clients. With Tabs, they have built a scalable financial foundation that will continue to support growth without operational bottlenecks.

By automating revenue operations, Tabs has enabled Sandbox and its clients to reduce manual workloads, improve cash flow, and focus on strategic financial management—setting them up for long-term success.
