Droplet, a B2B SaaS startup based in Lehi, Utah, was founded in 2020 with the mission of modernizing business processes by automating workflows and eliminating paperwork. Specializing in web form and workflow automation, Droplet primarily serves K-12 school districts, enabling them to streamline their operations. As Droplet's operations grew, so did the need to optimize its own internal financial processes.

Life Before Tabs

When Diego Romo joined Droplet as the first finance hire two years ago, the company's finance department was still heavily reliant on manual processes. With a background in Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Diego's expertise was in business strategy and forecasting, not day-to-day accounting tasks. However, the reality of the situation required him to dedicate around 60-70% of his time to managing Accounts Receivable (AR), including invoicing, dunning collections, and managing relationships with over 200 customers. Many customers still paid invoices by check, adding complexity and time to the process.

Diego shared, “I was spending a huge amount of time, 60-70% of my day, just managing AR. It was incredibly frustrating because it left me no time to focus on what I really wanted to do, which was strategic financial planning and analysis.”

Managing AR in QuickBooks was time-consuming, especially when it involved tracking term dates for accurate revenue recognition schedules and ensuring timely collections. 

Why Tabs?

In search of a solution to streamline and automate these processes, Droplet turned to Tabs. Prior to adopting Tabs, Droplet had used Cacheflow, a HubSpot acquisition focused on CPQ (configure-price-quote) tools and subscription management. Tabs works with our unique contracts and subscription models, which was crucial for us.”

Additionally, Tabs allowed Droplet to pass on credit card fees to customers, a feature that Diego saw as an important cost-saving opportunity. “By passing on credit card fees, we’ve been able to improve our bottom line,” Diego said. “It’s a simple change, but it’s been a huge win for us.”

With Tabs in place, Droplet was able to shift its focus from manual AR management to more strategic financial tasks.
